Albert Lawrence “Al” Zember, 88, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born June 7, 1926, in La Veta, Colorado, to George and Francis Cerbo Zember. He and Virginia “Ginny” Smith were married December 3, 1977, in Gunnison, Colorado.
Al was a 1944 graduate of La Veta High School, and was raised in the Catholic faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving honorably from August 15, 1944 to October 28, 1946. He was stationed overseas in Okinowa, Japan, and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.
Al worked his entire career in the automotive industry, most of which he was District Distributing Manager for American Motors. In 1990, he and Ginny moved from Burlington, Colorado to Jackson, where Al actively volunteered at the Jackson Senior Center.
Loving survivors include his wife of 37 years, Ginny of Jackson; two children, David Zember of Aurora, Colorado, Marlene Zember of Centennial, Colorado; four step-children, LaWanna Heise of Shawneeton, Cindy Neely of Oak Ridge, Mark Eifert of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Richard Eifert of Harrison, Arkansas; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, a sister, and his parents.
A private service will be held at a later date at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Jackson Senior Center.
