Veteran-IntroWilliam H. “Goose” Call, 85, of Jackson, passed away Monday, September 12, 2016 at Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 22, 1931 in Jackson, son of Lawrence R. and Amelia Engelmann Call. He and Erma King were married May 11, 1952 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.

Bill was a 1948 graduate of Jackson High School. He was inducted into the US Navy January 31, 1951 and served during the Korean War until being honorably discharged January 17, 1955.  He worked in the shipping and receiving department for the former Jim Wilson Company 30 years before retiring in 1992.  Bill was a charter member of Kimbeland Country Club in Jackson and enjoyed golfing, along with quail hunting with his dogs, working with his Tennessee walking horse, and watching Cardinal Baseball.  He was a member of the American Legion in Jackson, and a life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Loving survivors include his wife of 64 years, Erma; a daughter, Kim (Bill) Potts of St. Petersburg, Florida; three grandchildren, Nicholas Potts, Anna Potts and Sarah Potts of St. Petersburg; many kind and considerate nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest “Tink” Call and Ralph Call, two sisters, Rosebud Call and Hunter Jean Sewing.

The visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at chapel B of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral service will be at noon on Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Eric Longman officiating.

Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with military honors.

The family suggests that contributions be made to St. Paul Music Ministry , St. Paul Lutheran School or the church or charity of choice.
