He was born August 31, 1936 in Ridgley Tennessee, to Edgar William and Lelia Zora Payton Thurman. He and Doris Ann Graham were married July 3, 1960 in Summersville West Virginia.
Chuck went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone in 1956. In November, 1959, he entered the U.S. Army, serving honorably to February 1962. He then returned to the phone company, working 30 more years, retiring in 1992. After retirement, he enjoyed his family, life on the farm, and his woodworking shop. He was a member of Connection Point Church in Jackson.
Loving survivors include his wife of (54) years, Doris of Jackson; three children, Belinda (Rex) Jones of Jackson, Charles (Debbie) Thurman Jr. of Marble Hill, Missouri, Melissa (David) Bierer of Marble Hill; a sister Doris (James) Hornbeak of Joplin, Missouri; 7 Grandchildren; and 9 Great-Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Will (Beauton) Thurman, Edgar (Lucille) Thurman Jr.; three sisters; Irene Camper, Margaret (Everett) Jerls, and Virgie (Benson) Coleman
Friends may call Monday, May 4, 2015, from 4 to 8 PM, at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Funeral service will be Tuesday, May 5, 2015, at 10 AM, at the funeral home, with the Revs. Chris Vaught and Mike Huffman officiating.
Committal service will be Tuesday at noon, at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri, with full miltary honors.
