Dorothy Jean Gerecke, age 84, gained her angel wings, Saturday, October 10, 2015 at her home in Jackson.
She was born October 30, 1930 near Fruitland, daughter of Clarence H. and Edna Eakins Borgfield. Dorothy married Chester A. Gerecke on October 7, 1948. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1995.
Dorothy was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson. She and her husband farmed and raised Hereford Cattle near Gordonville for many years. They also owned and operated the former Mac’s Restaurant in Jackson and in 1966 they established the Wayside Restaurant, retiring in 1993.
Dorothy was affectionately known as “Grandma” and Big Grandma”. She was never critical, and is remembered for being kind-hearted and showing people the meaning of love and life.
Loving survivors include one son, Ronnie Gerecke of Jackson; three daughters, Sue (Bill) King, Sheila (Richard) King, and Lisa Licare, all of Jackson; six grandchildren, Bill (Sheila) King, Kevin King, James (Robin) King, Marisa (Chris) Meyer, Travis and Kristen Licare; six great grandchildren, Kasey, Connor, Karson, Drew, and LenaMae King and Keaton Licare; one brother, Kenneth (Peggy) Borgfield of Jackson.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Randy Gerecke, an infant sister, Marilyn Ruth Borgfield; two great grandsons, Parker King and Tyren Licare and a son-in-law, Scott Licare.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 pm, Tuesday, October 13th, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11 am, Wednesday, October 14th at the funeral home with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating.
Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
