Ella Mae Cook, 91, of Burfordville, Missouri, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2015, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

One of nine children, Ella Mae was born May 10, 1924, in Burfordville, to Sylvanis “Odney” and Iva C. Craig Hutson.  She and Raymond H. Cook were married March 14, 1946, at County Line Baptist Church.  They had been married 61 years when Raymond passed away April 16, 2007.

She was a 1942 graduate of Jackson High School.  She then attended the former Stymley Business College in Cape Girardeau.

She worked as a secretary for the International Shoe Company in St. Louis and the former International Shoe Company in Jackson.  She and Raymond also farmed near Burfordville.

Since the age of 12, she was a member of Burfordville Baptist Church, where she was active in WMU, Young Women’s Auxiliary, Girls’ Auxiliary, and the music ministry.  She worked 30 years in vacation Bible school, also directing the program several times.

Ella Mae was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  She especially enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, and cake decorating.

Loving survivors include a daughter, Sally (Robert “Bud”) Allen of Brush, Colorado; two daughters-in-law, Nancy (the late Mike) Cook of Burfordville, Helen (the late Tim) Cook of Marble Hill; four grandchildren, Andrew (Marisa) Cook, Daniel (Terran) Allen, Beth (Chris) Elbrecht, Mark Allen; a step-granddaughter, Teresa (Ernie) Crump; three great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Cody Cook, Madalyn Elbrecht; four step-greatgrandchildren, Hailey Elbrecht, Trey, Nick, and Corey Crump.

In addition to her husband, sons, and parents, she was preceded in death by eight siblings, Marie Hutson, Mabel Smith, Ruth Hutson, Ruby Clifton, Inez Starzinger, William Hutson, Charles “Pink” Hutson, and Robert Hutson.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 23, 2015, from 3:30 – 7 PM, at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be Thursday, December 24, 2015, at 10 AM, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Morris Cobb officiating.

Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Burfordville Baptist Church.

    Carey and I send our thoughts and prayers. I remember many happy times at “Aunt Ellie Mays” as I always called her as a kid. Will never forget the family reunions and good times had with family. Love you all.
