Velma Ruth Jackson, 90, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Tuesday, March 06, 2012 at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born April 17, 1921 in Vanduser, MO, daughter of Thomas F. and Bertha R. Robinson Irvin. She and Willard Eugene Hankins were married June 13, 1938 in Vanduser. On August 18, 1951, she married Finnas Andrew “Bill” Jackson. He passed away June 25, 1979.
Velma was a teacher in the Morley (Scott County Central) School District for 35 years. She was a member of the Morley Church of God, from childhood until her moving to the Cape Girardeau area, where she attended West Side Church of God. She was an active leader of the Women of Church of God.
Loving survivors include one son, William E. “Bill” (Helen) Jackson, of Jackson; two granddaughters, Denah (Roger) Siebert of Millersville and Susanne (Sterling) Proctor of Benton, MO; four great-grandchildren, Michael Siebert, Colby Siebert, Matthew Proctor, and Mitchell Proctor.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.
Friends may call Wednesday, March 7, from 5-8 PM at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Funeral service will be Thursday, March 8, 2012, at 1:30 PM, at the funeral home with the Rev. Jim Matthews, pastor of Cape County Cowboy Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Old Morley Cemetery in Morley.
The family suggests that memorials be made to Morley Church of God.
