Henry F. Davis

U.S. Veteran

Henry F. Davis, 93, of Jackson, formerly of Oak Ridge, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born October 7, 1918 in Menfro, Mo., to John C. and Esther E. Cox Davis. He and Lucille Z. Meyer were married September 28, 1941 in Jackson. She passed away March 7, 2012.

Henry was a veteran of WW II, serving in the U.S. Army from September, 1942 to October, 1945. He was awarded five bronze stars for campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe.

Henry was a lifelong farmer near Oak Ridge, and also worked for the Oak Ridge R-6 School district many years. He was a longtime faithful member of First Baptist Church in Oak Ridge, volunteering his labor on construction of church additions and with church maintenance.

Loving survivors include a son Roger (Gail) Davis of Fenton, Mo; a daughter Marilyn (Raymond) Accola of Fairbanks, Alaska; one brother Percy Davis of Perryville; three sisters, Vera Farrow and Lillie Kraemer both of Jackson, and Melva Floyd of Oak Ridge; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his loving wife of 70 years, he was preceded in death by four brothers Homer, Amos, James and John Davis; and three sisters Mildred Brown, Zeta Putz, and Lillian Weber.

Friends may call Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bud Schott officiating.

Interment will follow in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau with full military honors.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge.
