John Andrew Higgerson

John Andrew Higgerson, age 58, of New Madrid, passed way Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born August 26, 1955, in Sikeston, MO, son of Wesley Jackson “Bub” and Lorene McRoy Higgerson. He and Debra L. “Debbie” Wingo were married December 26, 1976 at the First Baptist Church of New Madrid.

John was a graduate of New Madrid High School and had attended Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. He had been employed at Noranda Aluminum in New Madrid since 1979 and was a member of the New Madrid Baptist Church. John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who was admired and loved by many. He was also an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. John always enjoyed helping others and bring a smile to the faces of friends and loved ones.

Loving survivors include his loving wife Debbie; one son, Andrew J. “Andy” (Laura) Higgerson of Sikeston; one daughter Megan J. (Ryan) Smith of Sikeston; three grandchildren, Gracie Jane Smith, Wesley Joseph Higgerson and Virginia Elizabeth Higgerson; one brother, Danny Joe Higgerson of Wingo, KY; and one sister, Mary Jane (Dan) Fieser of Jackson.

Also surviving are dear nieces and nephews, Lauren Edwards, Joey and Thomas Higgerson of New Madrid, John H. “Trey” Edwards of Bella Vista, AR, Hallie Fieser of Knoxville, TN, and Abbie Fieser of Cape Girardeau. John is survived by several other nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Willis “Bo” and Clara Bell Wingo; brothers-in-law Jerry Wingo and John H. Edwards II,; and a nephew, Jerry “Little Bo” Wingo.

A memorial service will be held and announced at a future date.
