Mary Katherine “Kay” Kirk, age 65, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016 at her home.

She was born March 12, 1951 in Cape Girardeau daughter of Cyrus B and Harriet E. Shy Porter. She and Roger H. Kirk were married September 4, 1971 in New Madrid, MO.

Kay was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson for over 40 years and a member of the St. Ann’s Sodality. She taught school at St. Denis Catholic School in Benton, Mo, Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Jackson, St. Maurus Catholic School in Biehle, Mo, St. Joseph Catholic School in Apple Creek, Mo and a substitute teacher at Jackson R-2 School District, retiring in May of 2016 from Scott County Central School.

Kay was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. She touched the lives of everyone she came across in a very special way. The warmth of her heart and generosity will be remembered by all that knew her.

Survivors include her loving husband of over 45 years, Roger; three sons, Jason (Ayako) Kirk of O’Fallon, IL, Steven (Mendy) Kirk of Jackson, and John Kirk of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Alyssa (Drake) Seabaugh of Jackson; five grandchildren, Momo Scharf, Daniel, Sydney, and Adyson Seabaugh, and Kate Kirk.

Also surviving are her parents Cyrus and Harriet Porter of New Madrid, MO; four brothers, Michael, Joe, Erwin, and Edward Porter; and four sisters, Carolyn Allred, Patty Frye, Anita Hunter, and Lynette Fowler.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents.

The visitation will be 4-8 pm Tuesday, Nov 22, 2016 at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. Parish Prayers will begin at 7 pm followed by the Rosary.

The funeral service will be 10 am Wednesday, Nov 23, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Church in Jackson with Father David Hulshof officiating.

Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Brain Tumor Association, Immaculate Conception Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

    I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Kay at Scott Central. She was always so sweet and helpful. I always loved seeing her at church. She will be missed by so many. Prayers for you all.

    I am so sorry for your loss. Mrs. Kirk was my 2nd grade teacher at St. Maurus back in 1995. She will always be a teacher who was greatly loved by her students for being firm but fair and kind. I wish I could have had the chance to tell her that she is the reason I became a teacher and now teach at a Catholic school up in Perryville. May God console you in your grief and may she rest forever in His peace.
