Jewel “Maxine” White, 95, of Jackson passed away Sunday, January 15, 2017 in Cape Girardeau.
She was born September 7, 1921, in Jackson, daughter of Orville C. and Esther L Deneke Godwin. She and Thirman “Drake” White were married April 10, 1971. He passed away March 13, 2006.
Maxine was a graduate of Jackson High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson. Maxine was a former Sunday school teacher for 1st graders. She worked at the Jackson Hosiery Mill for 25 years; and she and her husband owned and operated White’s Standard Station on Broadway until retiring in 1987. Maxine enjoyed writing religious poems, working on the family farm with her husband, and working with her outside flowers was her outside passion.
Loving survivors include a stepdaughter, Carolyn (Wes) Campbell of Cape Girardeau; a stepson, Dave (Brenda) White of Chaffee; five grandchildren, Danny (Patti) Campbell, Michael Campbell, Corey (Candless) Campbell, David White, and Mitchel (Amy) White; eleven great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 35 years, two brothers, George and Charles Godwin, and two sisters, Mary Ella Jackman and Marjorie Baker.
Friends may call Wednesday, January 18, 2017 from 10:00 am until service time at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 pm, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating.
Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Crown Hospice.
