Stanley Eugene “Gene” Vaughn, 82, of Cape Girardeau, went to be with our Lord and Savior at 11:00 p.m. Monday, July 3, 2017 at Fountainbleau Lodge in Cape Girardeau, with his daughter, Gina, at his side.  Gene was born May 17, 1935 in Ashley, Illinois, to Claude and Clara Vaughn.  They preceded him in death.  He married the love of his life, Marilyn Sue Mullins, on August 15, 1966.  She also preceded him in death.

Surviving are: daughter, Gina (Darryl) LeGrand of Cape Girardeau; son, Chris (Rosana) Vaughn of Whitney, TX; daughter, Cindy (Tom) Atkins of Mt. Vernon, IL; daughter, Cathy (Aman) Al Samariay of St. Louis, MO; son, Stanley (Terri) Vaughn of Indianapolis, IN; daughter, Tammy (David) Carte of Shelbyville, IN; and son Greg (Bonnie) Vaughn of Greenfield, IN; nineteen grandchildren, and twenty-four great-grandchildren.

Gene is also survived by three sisters; Dorothy (Kenneth) Vance of Nashville, IL, Martha (Tom) Novak of Elephant Butte, NM, and June George of Nashville, IL; and one brother, Rev. John (Connie) Vaughn of Pekin, IL.  He leaves behind many nieces and nephews who were dear to him.

Gene spent much of his life working in the dry-cleaning business in several communities in central and southern Illinois, as well as in Cape Girardeau, where he and Marilyn chose to retire.  Gene loved being outdoors, and in his retirement years he loved to mow and trim yards up until he was no longer able.

Gene loved the Lord.  He spent much of his free time reading his Bible, studying, meditating, and interceding in prayer for others.  He was a generous and giving person all of his life.  He was a member of Christ Church of the Heartland in Cape Girardeau.

His visitation will be from 9:30-11:00am, Monday, July 10, 2017, at Christ Church of the Heartland, 720 Bertling, in Cape Girardeau.  Funeral service will begin at 11:00 am, with Rev. Zack Strong as the officiant.  Entombment will follow the service at Cape County Memorial Park and Mausoleum.

Arrangements are being coordinated by McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about Gene passing away. I worked with him at Patrick’s cleaners and then had the pleasure to see him several times when I worked at Cracker Barrel. He was such a nice person who always had a smile on his face. RIP Gene! My deepest sympathy for the family.
