Vernadene Lane, 91, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

Born on November 21, 1924, in Naylor, Missouri to Earnest W. and Ruhama D. McCarty Smith, Vernadene spent most of her early life in Southeast Missouri attending Sylvan (Pig Ankle) school and Naylor High School. She and Gerald Lane were married on September 2, 1942, in Naylor.  They had been married 21 years when he passed away on June 5, 1964.

Vernadene worked on the family farm and at Vitronic in Doniphan, Missouri. Most of her career was spent in the healthcare field around St. Louis. She most enjoyed providing care to people in their own home. She loved crossword puzzles, rummy, teaching her grandchildren math, and spending time with her family.  In 2008, she moved to Jackson to spend time with her family.

Loving survivors include her son, Jack (Ellen) Lane of Jackson; two grandchildren, Jason (Kari) Lane and their daughter Emerson of Loudonville, NY and Jenny (Patrick) Dunham and their children Olivia and Cooper of Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a young son, Kenneth Lane; and five siblings, Rosetta Crecelius, Loyd, Loren, Lehman, and Bobby Smith.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 5, from 9 to 10 a.m., at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, at 1:30 p.m., at Richwoods Cemetery near Corning, Arkansas.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Lutheran Home.
