Zene Helderman, 79, of St. Louis and formerly of Jackson, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016, at the National Healthcare Nursing Home in Park Hills, Missouri.

Zene was born September 13, 1936, at Whitewater, Missouri, to Rowland Dale and Margarette Howard Helderman.

Zene was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from November 9, 1954 to November 7, 1958.

He worked on various riverboats over the years and later he worked in maintenance at the former Foamex plant in Cape Girardeau.

Survivors include three sons, Marshall Helderman of St. Louis, Eddie Helderman of French Village, Missouri, and Darrell Helderman of Jackson; a brother, Orren “Bud” Helderman of Montgomery City,  Missouri; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 16, 2016, from 5 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral service will be Friday, June 17, 2016, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home.

Full military honors will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.

Memorial contributions may be made to Serenity Hospice in Park Hills.

    So sorry to hear of Zene’s passing. I worked with Zeno, as we called him, at Ludlow/ Foamex way back in the mid 70’s. He knew my Dad so we hit it off pretty well. I would see him just a few times during the years after working with him, but always enjoyed talking to him. He was a riot. I’m sure he will be missed by his family and anyone that was fortunate to have known him.
