Betty Jane Melvin, age 90, of Jackson completed her journey home Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born March 18, 1929, in Cape Girardeau County, daughter of Roy W. and Laura Koeppel McLain.
Betty worked at the Jackson Hosiery Mill and then for Proctor and Gamble, retiring after 22 years. She was a member of Lynnwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau and was active in the ladies’ Sunday school class.
Betty had a sweet disposition and was always kind, considerate, caring, and giving to all. Her family will cherish her life and carry her memory in their hearts.
Loving survivors include four children, Dennis Littleton of Jackson, Carolyn (Lane) Stearns of Millersville, Marilyn (Donald) Conrad of Jackson and Barbara (Gary) Hartle of Murray, Kentucky; eight grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Norma Shipp of Cape Girardeau; four brothers, Fred McLain and Jesse McLain of Jackson, James McLain of Wood River, Illinois and John McLain of Cape Girardeau.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Roy, Richard and Glenn McLain; three sisters, Ruth Burchyett, Marie Hampton and Erma McDowell.
The visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time, Friday, May 31, 2019, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. The funeral service is at 11 a.m., Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
