Bobby D. “Bob” Stearns, 78, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2019, at the Missouri State Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born October 6, 1940, in Daisy, Missouri, to Ova R. and Nellie E. Hobeck Stearns. He and Georgia Ann McQuaid were married December 3, 1960, in Scott City, Missouri.
Bob served honorably in the U.S. Navy from December 11, 1958 to February 2, 1960. He worked many years in residential and commercial sheet metal.
He was a member of New Salem United Methodist Church in Daisy and Sheet Metal Local 36 in St. Louis. He enjoyed woodworking, rebuilding antique tractors, traveling and spending time with his family.
Loving survivors include his wife of 58 years, Georgia Stearns of Jackson; three daughters, Laura (Mark) Dumey of Jackson, Lisa (Dave) Haupt of Oak Ridge, Missouri, and Traci (John) Cothran of Springfield, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Lindsey Wulfers, Tyler (Kelley) Dumey, Alex and Logan Harris, Kaleigh Hamblin, Abigail (Seth) Morrow, and Ariana Cothran; eight great-grandchildren, and six siblings, Carma "Peg" (Rev. Charles) Newell, Earlene (the late Clarence) Langston, Linda (Jerry) Morton, and Patsy Wendel, all of Jackson, Richard (Brenda) Stearns of Lonedell, Missouri, Mary (the late Lindell “Bud”) James of Patton; and a brother-in-law, John (the late Sue) Clippard of Oak Ridge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Virgil (Minnie) Stearns and Fred (Rosemary) Stearns; and a sister, Sue Clippard.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2019, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson
The funeral is at 10 a.m., Thursday, September 5, 2019, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bryan Wendling officiating. Burial will follow at New Salem Cemetery in Daisy.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Missouri Veteran’s Home Foundation or New Salem Cemetery.
