Charles “David” Tranum, age 66 of Scott City, Missouri died Monday, May 6, 2019 at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born October 20, 1952, in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of Lem Orgill and Frances McElroy Tranum Jr.
David was a graduate of Cape Central High School in Cape Girardeau. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps February 2, 1972 and was honorably discharged from active duty March 15, 1976.
He enjoyed the outdoors and was always trying a new challenge, including rock climbing, spelunking, canoeing, RC aircraft, and long range shooting competition. He was a serious bicyclist; riding 50-70 miles an outing right up until this illness stopped him. David was a beloved member of his community. He was well known as someone always willing to help the people he lived around, and they all appreciated his knowledge and help.
Loving survivors include his mother, Frances Brotherton of Cape Girardeau; two siblings, Sherri (Steve) Pierce of Cape Girardeau and Mark Allen Tranum of St. Louis; a daughter Jessica Tranum, three grandchildren, Chris, Haley, and Kain of Florida; three nieces, Alisha Tranum, Melissa Pierce and Jennifer Wills; four nephews, Nathaniel Pierce, Jonathan Pierce, Benjamin Pierce and Marc Tranum.
He was preceded in death by his father, L. O. Tranum, Jr., in 2004.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 16, 2019 from 5:00 pm until time of service at Maple Avenue Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial service will be at 7:00 pm at the church with Rev. David Conley officiating.
