Gerald Joe Martin, age 69, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at the Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau
He was born April 9, 1949 in San Diego, CA the son Robert Edwin and Yvonne Marie Weir Martin. Joe married Marian Frances McCormick August 28, 1999.
Joe enlisted in the United States Coast Guard March 24, 1969 and was honorably discharged March 23, 1973 from active duty. He then entered the United States Air Force December 3, 1979 and honorably discharged January 13, 1987 at the rank of Captain. He attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Supervision from Northern Arizona University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Historical Preservation at Southeast Missouri State University. Joe also earned a Master of Science degree in Public Administration at Southeast Missouri State University. He moved to Jackson in 1985. Joe was a member of American Legion Post 158 in Jackson and for several years was a faithful volunteer for the American Red Cross. Joe also enjoyed civil war re-enactments and was a representative of the Turner Brigade Artillery Unit.
Loving survivors include his wife, Marian of Jackson; two nephews, Kenneth Wayne Martin and Michael Lee Martin; a niece, Shannon Dora Frakies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and a brother.
Friends may call from 1-2 pm, Saturday, July 21, 2018 at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. An American Legion Service will be start at 2 pm followed by a Celebration of Life service and Military Honors.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Church or Charity of donor’s choice.
