Hazel Louella Short, age 89, of Jackson passed away Monday, January 6, 2020 at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born October 28, 1930 in Puxico, Missouri, daughter of James Ervin and Anna Westbrook Maples. She and Ralph Wayne Short were married August 9, 1948 in Puxico. They had been married nearly 58 years when he passed away February 6, 2006.
Hazel and Ralph had previously resided in Peoria, Illinois, the state of New Mexico and moved to Jackson in 1992. She was a loving wife to Ralph, mother, grandmother and great grandmother; she took great pride in being a homemaker and raising her family. Hazel was very passionate about flowers and was an active member of First Baptist Church in Jackson.
Loving survivors include one son, Michael Short of East Peoria, Illinois; two daughters, Marilyn Dauw of Ozark, Missouri, Monica Brown of Jackson and a daughter – in – law Genie (the late Dr. Dewayne) Short of Runaway Bay, Texas six grandsons and six great grandchildren.
Also surviving are a sister Connie (Randy) Spane and a niece Janet (Larry) Cook all of Chaffee; and a special daughter Marcia Short of Escanaba, Michigan.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her son, Dr. Dewayne Short, her parents, a sister, Helen Wilson, a brother, Herman Paul Maples and an infant brother.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 am, Thursday, January 9, 2020 at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Interment will be in Puxico Cemetery in Puxico, Missouri.
The family suggests that contributions be made to Wounded Warriors, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Crown Hospice.
