Irene Anne Stoverink, 97, of Jackson, passed away Monday, June 17, 2019, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born March 21, 1922, in Leopold, Missouri, to Frederick and Helena Elfrink Thiele. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Catholic Church in Leopold, also the church where she and Alphonse H. Stoverink were married on March 18, 1943. Eleven children were born to their union. They had been married 55 years when Alphonse passed away August 27, 1998.
Irene was a 65-year member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson, previously serving as a Eucharistic Minister in local nursing homes. Her family and friends enjoyed her quick wit and compassion for all people. Having had such a large family, she became a proficient gardener, but she is best remembered for making chicken and dumplings, baking cookies, and quilting.
Loving survivors include 11 children, Carol (the late Jerry) Dirnberger of Oran, Missouri, Mary Helena (John) Seiler of Gordonville, Missouri, Theresa (Randy) Kern and Linda (Tom) Essner of New Hamburg, Missouri, Rita (Dan) Koeppel of Cape Girardeau; Jim (Susie) Stoverink, Jerry (Cathi) Stoverink, and Alvin (Carol) Stoverink, all of Jackson, Dan (Paula) Stoverink of Lake Saint Louis, Missouri, Dave (Linda) Stoverink of Carthage, Illinois, and Mike (Candy) Stoverink of Danville, Illinois; 42 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Stanley (the late Rose Ann) Thiele, Helen (Harold) Beussink, and Betty (the late Fred) Beussink, all of Leopold.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three siblings, Edwin (Evelyn) Thiele, Hilda (Albert) Beussink, and Glen (Ethel) Thiele.
Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 20, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson. Deacon Al Stoverink will lead Parish Prayers at 7 p.m., immediately followed with a Rosary led by St. Ann Sodality.
The funeral Mass is at 11 a.m., Friday, June 21, 2019, at the church, with Father Jospeh Stoverink officiating, assisted by Deacon Al Stoverink. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Immaculate Conception Building Fund or the donor’s choice of church or charity.
