Janice Rix Slaubaugh, age 73, of Cape Girardeau, passed away peacefully Dec 23rd at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Janice was born Oct 5, 1946, in Cresco, Iowa, daughter of Theodore and G. Dorothy Rigby Rix.
Janice and Gary were married June 3, 1994 in St. Lucia in the British West Indies.
Janice was a 1964 graduate of Mundelein High School, Mundelein, IL. Janice and Gary owned and operated Square-One Electronics in Cape Girardeau until 2008. Janice also worked at Garner and Schwab in Cape for many years. As a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel in Cape Girardeau, Jan was active in the church choir, parish planning council, and other committees. She contributed her time and talents in knitting and crafts to create items that helped cancer patients and survivors be more comfortable.
Loving survivors include; a brother Brian (Dawn) Rix of Murfreesboro, TN; a stepson, Duane (Kim) Slaubaugh of Raymore, Missouri; two step daughters, Angie (Ray) Butler of Cape Girardeau, and Cindy (Ron) Weaver of Fayetteville, Georgia; six grandchildren, Tanner and Madi Hankins, Bradley and Lydia Slaubaugh, and Lexi and Abby Weaver; sisters in law, Linda (Tommy) West of Morgantown, Kentucky and Patti Slaubaugh of Murfreesboro, TN, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gary E. Slaubaugh, her brother, Robert Rix and brother-in-law Eddie Slaubaugh.
A memorial service will be held at 9:00 am on Friday, January 17th at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Weston Wildauer officiating.
Inurnment will be private at the Missouri State Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri following the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may take the form of contributions to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or The National Breast Cancer Foundation.
