Letha R. Abernathy, 93, passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at her home near Oriole.
She was born August 31, 1925, in Cape Girardeau, to Everett and Ruby Cummings Edmonds. She and William H. “Jerome” Abernathy were married July 19, 1947. They had been married 59 years when Jerome passed away October 31, 2006.
Letha was a graduate of Cape Central High School. She was a homemaker and especially enjoyed gardening, canning, and maintaining her yard. She was of the Assembly of God faith
Loving survivors include two children, Gary (Kaye) Abernathy of Oriole and ue (Charles) Thiele of Wright City, Missouri; two grandchildren, Chris (Angel) Thiele of Wright City and Lori (David) Luckett of Wentzville, Missouri; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Nadine Hollingsworth of Old Monroe, Missouri, and Erma Turley of Chaffee, Missouri; and her canine companion, Jake the wonder dog, who provided much comfort to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers, and three sisters.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. to service time, Friday, October 5, 2018, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral service is at 11 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
