Lloyd Arlan "Lefty" Roberts, 84, of Jackson, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2019, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born August 14, 1935, in Cape Girardeau, to Ray and Iva Nothdurft Roberts. He and Wanda L. Henson were married July 7, 1956, at the parsonage of Red Star Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Lefty was a 1954 graduate of Cape Central High School, where he played football and baseball and ran track. The summer of his senior year, Lefty started working in the Tool and Die Dept. at Superior Electric Corp in Cape Girardeau. He continued his employment there until 1980, and then became employed at Rubbermaid (formerly Lee-Rowan) in Jackson, serving several years as manager of the Tool and Die Room. He was later promoted to Senior Processing Engineer and held that position until retiring in 1998.
Lefty was a member and a deacon of Shawnee Hills Baptist Church in Jackson and was a former active member of Fellowship, Red Star, and Bethany Baptist Churches in Cape Girardeau.
Lefty was blessed was the gifts of carpentry and playing the harmonica. He used his talents to the glory of the Lord, often contributing his time for church carpentry projects and offering gospel harmonica solos.
Loving survivors include his wife of 63 years, Wanda Roberts of Jackson; two children, Terri (Lee) Baker of Cape Girardeau and Dan (Karen) Roberts of Millersville; two grandchildren, Robert Arlan Flannery and Chance Joe Dalton Roberts; a great-grandchild, Rees LaRae Flannery; and a brother, Don (the late Margie) Roberts of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Wilda (Raymond) Ruebel and Kathleen "Katie" (Charlie) Crawford.
Visitation is from 12:30 p.m. to service time, Saturday, September 28, 2019, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral is at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 28, 2019, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Don Estes officiating. Burial will follow at New Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
