Lois Marie Weis, 94, died peacefully on May 3, 2019, in St. Charles, Missouri.
She was born October 2, 1924 In Moline, Illinois, daughter of the Rev. Carl and Elsie Steinmann Hilgendorf. On July 15, 1945, she married Rev. Earl E. Weis. He died Oct. 24, 2006.
She graduated from Geneseo, Ill. High school, Concordia University, Chicago and also attended Indiana University, Northwestern University and SEMO where she did her graduate work in English. She taught school in five different states retiring in 1986. She was an organist having positions in 6 different churches. She taught Sunday School and directed the adult choir in Hammond, Indiana and the Children’s choir in Jackson, Missouri. She was a Girl Scout leader in Indiana.
After her retirement she became active in hospice work which she enjoyed very much, especially working with Alzheimers patients.
She and her husband enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 states and many foreign countries.
She resided at Breeze Park in St Charles, Missouri since 2017.
Survivers include Connie Alsip (Andrew) of Ohio, Christine Hartshorn (Tom) of New York, Rebecca Mayer (Franz) of Missouri, Beth Gipson (Kim) of Alabama, daughter-in-law Karen ( the late Carl William) Weis, eleven grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Rev. Carl William “Bill” Weis, a son-in-law, Bill Leed, two brothers, Merle and Stanley Hilgendorf, and sister-in-law, Helen (Merle) Hilgendorf.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. to service time, Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
Funeral service is at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Russ Gipson officiating. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
