Paul “Chub” Heuring, 83, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born September 27, 1934, in New Hamburg, to Anton “Tony” and Clara LeGrand Heuring.
Paul’s graduating class of 1954 was the first to graduate from the then new Cape Central High School. He played football, but was better known for playing baseball. He lettered all four years in baseball, and pitched on the Cape Legion Baseball Team that competed for state finals at the old Busch Stadium.
After graduation, he moved to Oklahoma, where he earned an associate’s degree in diesel mechanics from Oklahoma Technical School.
Paul served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961. He met Jane Witherhead when stationed in New York, and they were married September 23, 1961, in Morristown, New York.
Upon moving to Cape Girardeau, he worked 25 years for Erlbacher’s Materials, Inc., retiring in 1989.
Paul loved every sport, and especially enjoyed watching the sports his grandchildren participated in. He liked traveling to the beach in Florida and to the race track, where he always placed $2 bets. In recent months, he liked to enjoy the sunshine on his new deck.
He was a member of Maple Avenue Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.
