Allegra Wendel

Edith Allegra Wendel, 95, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016, at the home of her daughter in Jackson.

She was born August 14, 1921, in Tilsit, Missouri, to Charles H. and Ida Valle Daume, Sr. She and Jacob T. "Jake" Wendel, Jr., were married November 29, 1941, in Rolla, Missouri. They had been married nearly 52 years when Jake passed away November 10, 1993.

Allegra was valedictorian of the Jackson High School class of 1941. She worked many years as office manager of the Mutual of Omaha Insurance Office in Cape Girardeau.

She was a longtime member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson and previously served as an adult Sunday school teacher. Allegra enjoyed being active in the lives of her children and grandchildren. When her children were young, she was a 4-H leader.

Loving survivors include four children, Gary (Emillie) Wendel, David (Janet) Wendel, Ruth (Roger) Lane all of Jackson, Jane (Richard) Malone of Springfield, Missouri; five siblings, Marie Haupt and Margaret Puchbauer of Jackson, Ruth Meier of Perryville, Ethel Hall of Oro Valley, Arizona, Melbert Daume of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren with another expected soon.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Edward Daume; and a grandson, Brandon Wendel.

Friends may call Tuesday, September 6, 2016, from 4 to 8 p.m., at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with the Revs. Sam Roethemeyer and Joe Rowley officiating.

Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery in Tilsit.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association.
