Bettie Jane Dow

Bettie Jane Dow, 86 of Jackson, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2015, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home, where she resided since the death of her husband.

She was born February 13, 1929, in Jackson, to James and Mabel Morrison Godwin. She and Paul Ray Dow were married August 20, 1949 at First Baptist Church in Jackson. They had been married 64 years when Paul Ray passed away March 2, 2014.

Bettie was a 1947 graduate of Jackson High School. In addition to farming with Paul Ray at their farm west of Jackson, she worked as a bookkeeper at Wib's in Jackson and then many years as secretary at First Baptist Church in Jackson, retiring in 1991.

Bettie and Paul Ray were lifelong active members of First Baptist Church in Jackson. Bettie was active in WMU and previously taught Sunday School, both at the church and at Deal Nursing Home in Jackson. When she moved to Jackson Manor, she continued to attend weekly worship services and especially enjoyed singing.

Bettie and Paul Ray enjoyed winter months in Mesa, Arizona, relaxing, playing volleyball, and Bettie became accomplished at bocci ball. They also traveled often to visit their son in Texas and regularly went to Branson where they usually went to four or five shows a day. .

Loving survivors include two children, Paula (Wayne) Givens of Ballwin, Missouri, Stephen (Diann) Dow of Austin, Texas; two granddaughters, Jenna McGregor of Indianapolis, Indiana, Lauren (Eric) Hayes of Columbia, Missouri; a sister, Barbara (the late Harry Noel) of Jackson; and a sister-in-law, Judy (George) Cozby of Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Friends may call Monday, June 1, 2015, from 4 to 8 PM at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral service will be Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at 10:30 AM, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Janet Hopkins officiating.

Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the WMU of First Baptist Church in Jackson, or Jackson Senior Center.
