Betty Jo (Jones) Riehn

B etty Jo Riehn, 95, of Millersville, passed away Friday, May 16, 2025, at her home. The fifth of nine children, Betty was born December 23, 1929, in Millersville, to Samuel D. and Opal A. "Allyne" Wise Jones. She was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School. She and Melvin Riehn were married May 6, 1950, at the courthouse in Jackson. Three children were born to their union, Stanley, Kay, and Kenn. They had been married for 72 years when Mel passed away November 7, 2022. Before devoting her full attention to her young family, Betty worked at the shoe factory in Cape Girardeau. Later, she sewed for many people and did alterations for Andrew Jackson, a formal attire store, previously located in uptown Jackson. Betty was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Millersville and it's WMU organization. She also served as an Acteens leader and volunteered at Peaceful Valley Church Camp. For many years, Betty regularly played Skip-Bo with her lifelong best friends, Betty June Cowan, Lurena Maintz, and Maxine Friedrich, all who preceded her in death. Loving survivors include two children, Kay (Bruce) Hoffman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Kenn (Pamela) Riehn of Jackson; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Riehn (Herbie) Harris of Kansas; nine grandchildren, Clayton (Emily), Nathan, Michael, Leah (David), Ian (Veronique), Sam (Jennifer), Emily (Layne), Seth, and Lydia; and 12 great-grandchildren, Owen, Paige, Cole, Grace, Liliane, Theo, Lincoln, Monroe, Thaddeus, Everly Jo, Zelie, James; twins Grace and Margot expected May 19, and Calvin expected July 8. Also surviving are her siblings: J. W. (late Mary) Jones of Jackson; Dorothy D. "Dean" (Lyman) Craft of Fredericktown, Missouri; Tom (late Vanita) Jones of Jackson; Mike Jones of Kansas City, Missouri; and Melvin's surviving family: sister, Betty (late Robert) Williamson of Jackson; and sisters-in-law, Judy (late Hobart) Riehn of Jackson and Helen (late Jay) Riehn of Friedheim. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Stanley Melvin Riehn; an infant grandson, Tony Riehn; her parents, Samuel and Allyne Jones; siblings, Helen (LeRoy) Haupt, Hazel (Eugene) Seabaugh, Mary "Pete" (Glenn "Spider") Fronabarger; a young brother, Ray Jones; Melvin's parents, Fred and Sarah Niswonger Riehn; and Melvin's brothers, Hobart (Jean) Riehn, Jay Riehn, and Jerry (Marilyn) Riehn. Visitation is from 9:30 to service time., Monday, May 19, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Millersville. Mike Cowan and the Rev. Jason Grubbs will conduct the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 19, 2025, at the church. Interment will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson. Arrangements by McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. If considering a memorial contribution, the family suggests First Baptist Church in Millersville.
