Bobby Gene Scholz, 83, of Jackson, passed away Friday, January 15, 2016, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
One of nine children, Bob was born March 21, 1932, in Whitewater, Missouri, to William "Bill" and Cora "Edith" Snell Scholz. He and Betty "Joan" Proffer were married September 23, 1953. They had been married nearly 62 years when Joan passed away September 3, 2015.
Bob attended school in Whitewater. He entered the U.S. Army October 6, 1953, during the Korean War era. He served 16 of 24 months overseas, and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany). He was honorably discharged October 5, 1955.
Upon returning to Jackson, he worked at the former egg plant in Jackson and over 30 years at Proctor and Gamble in Cape Girardeau. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Cape Girardeau and the VFW in Jackson.
Loving survivors include two children, Debbie Blanton of Washington, Missouri, and Randy Scholz of Jackson; a son-in-law, Wayne Wolak of Jackson; a granddaughter, Bobbi Bell of Jackson; a grandson, Kris Blanton (Chrissy Warner) of Washington; four great-granddaughters, Autumn Hinkebein, Katie and Brooklyn Phillips, Gabby Bell; and two great-grandsons, Nolan Bell and Logan Blanton.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two children, Cheryl "Kay" Wolak and Joe Scholz; a granddaughter, Jami Wolak; eight siblings, Eugene, John, Jerry, Leonard, Amy, Virginia, Gladys, and Pearl; and a brother-in-law, Rick Proffer.
Friends may call Monday, January 18, 2016, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home, with the Rev. Janet Hopkins officiating.
A committal service will be held at 12 p.m., Tuesday, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield. Full military honors will be observed.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Missouri Veterans Home Foundation.
