Bonnie L. (Seabaugh) Smith

Jackson, Missouri

Bonnie L. Smith, 89, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020, at the Monticello House in Jackson.

She was born June 14, 1930, in Sedgewickville, Missouri, to Harry F. and Eula Mae (Seabaugh) Seabaugh.  She and Richard L. “Dick” Smith were married August 13, 1955.  They had been married nearly 24 years when Dick passed away June 23, 1979.

Bonnie was a cheerleader and a 1948 graduate of Jackson High School.  She was employed at Oscar Meyer while briefly living in Colorado, and Farmers and Merchants Bank in Cape Girardeau.  Her employment in Jackson included the Jackson Hosiery Mill; Cape County Bank; Co-op; Cape County Recorder and Cape County Sheriff; and over 20 years at Jackson City Hall, retiring in 1994.

Bonnie was a longtime member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson, the Bethany Circle, and the American Legion Auxiliary.  She loved to travel, and in later years she enjoyed volunteering at the Jackson Senior Center and the Missouri State Veterans Home.

Loving survivors include four daughters, Brenda Proffer (Jon Friedrich), Katherine A. Friedrich, and Cindy Smith, all of Jackson, and Brooke (John) Foltz of Festus, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Dana (Angel) Smith of St. Louis, Ria (Austin) Reed of Jackson, Kelsey (Chris) Cox of Advance, Rika Friedrich of Denver, Colorado, Heather (Tyler) Beckett of Oak Ridge, Missouri, Lainey (Steven) Allen of Kansas City, Missouri, Codie (Josh) Wicks of Festus; six great-grandsons, Hunter, Carter, Louis, Owen, Charlie, and Stetson; two great-granddaughters, Millie and Britton; and a sister, Juanita “Pete” Seabaugh and spouse “Cat” Voors of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and a sister, Cherry Sue (Joe) Birk.  Dick’s deceased siblngs are Shirley (Hershel) Statler, Bonnie Wilkening, and R. B. Smith.

Bonnie’s family wishes to convey their sincere appreciation to the staffs of Monticello House and Southeast Hospice for their dedication in caring for Bonnie.

The family will honor Bonnie with a private funeral at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.  Private interment will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, where Bonnie will be laid to rest beside Dick.  The Revs. Joe Rowley and Sam Roethemeyer will officiate.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Southeast Hospice or Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson.
