Carolena Galloway

June 9, 1939 — November 4, 2015

Carolena A. Galloway, 76, of Jackson, passed away peacefully at the Lutheran Home Wednesday, November 4, 2015.

She was born June 9, 1939, in Whitewater, Missouri, to Emil and Alma Meier Muster. She and W. Dean Galloway were married August 24, 1957, at St. James United Church of Christ in Tilsit. They had been married nearly 56 years when Dean passed away June 7, 2013.

Carolena was a 1957 graduate of Jackson High School. She worked a few years at the former International Shoe Factory in Jackson. Once she and Dean started their family, Carolena became a fulltime homemaker and farmed alongside Dean.

Carolena was a lifelong member of St. James United Church of Christ in Tilsit. She was a former Sunday school teacher, and served as church pianist and organist until 2011 when her health began to decline. She was a member of the former Friendship Homemakers Club in Gordonville and a former 4-H leader. Although Carolena enjoyed vegetable gardening, canning, quilting, and sewing, her all-time favorite activity was being an awesome Mama and caring for her grandchildren.

Loving survivors include two children, Larry (Brianne) Galloway of Grand Junction, Colorado, Bonnie (Jeff) Stricker of Cape Girardeau; former daughter-in-law, Valerie (Richard) Heise of Perryville, Missouri; five grandchildren, Heather and Nicole Galloway of Jackson, Amanda, Kara, and Gracie Stricker of Cape Girardeau; three step-grandchildren, Olivia, Natalie, and Josh of Grand Junction; a great-granddaughter, Emma Jo Galloway-Minner; a sister, Dorothy (the late Ken) Rowley of Jackson; a niece, Julie (Dave) Dyer and their children, Michaela, Daniel, and Jacob of Whitewater.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, James and Steven Galloway; and an infant.

Carolena's family is grateful to the devoted staff and fellow residents at the Lutheran Home for the care and frienship extended to her during her residency there.
