Carolyn Jean (Garland) Smith

Carolyn Jean Smith, 74, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, August 8, 2021 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

She was born June 3, 1947, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, daughter of Winford and Verda Welker Garland. She and Charles “Charlie” Smith were married August 8, 1969.

Carolyn was a 1965 graduate of Meadow Heights in Patton, Missouri. She became the first homecoming queen in1965. Carolyn was a secretary at Jackson High school for 25 years and was loved by many students. Carolyn enjoyed spending time with all her “grands”, fishing with Charlie at their cabin in Marble hill and having fish fries with friends and family.

She attended the Cape County Cowboy Church.

Loving survivors include her husband of 52 years, Charlie Smith of Jackson; two sons, Brett Smith and Ryan (Bonnie) Smith all of Jackson; five grandchildren, Merritt, Warren, Tripp, Luke and Lauren Smith; four sisters, Wanda (Lindell) Seabaugh, Kathy Cook, Brenda (Norman) Holweg all of Marble Hill and Sharon (Dennis) Collins of Jackson.

Visitation will be from 3 P.M. until service time on Thursday, August, 12, 2021 at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Memorial service will be at 7 P.M. on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at the funeral home with Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Lymphoma Research Foundation.
