Carolyn S. Huter

Carolyn S. Huter, 66, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2016 at her home, the result of a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She was born September 13, 1949, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Walter and Roxie Dickerson Mirly. She and Larry Huter were married August 11, 1968.

Carolyn was a 1967 graduate of Jackson High School. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson where she started the church library. She was a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sparta, Illinois where she was instrumental in forming the church's preschool program. Carolyn was a certified x-ray technician and during her career, branched out into CT scan, Ultrasound and MRI. She held positions at Sparta Community Hospital, St. Clements Hospital in Redbud, Illinois, and at Cape Radiology Group in Cape Girardeau. She has been a volunteer since 2008 at the Missouri Department of Conservation Nature Center in Cape Girardeau. She was an avid gardener, a gifted seamstress, an expert on Missouri native flowers, and was a dog's best friend.

In addition to her husband of 47 years, loving survivors include two sons, Jason (Amy) Huter of Milan, New Hampshire and David (Olivia) Huter of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren, Cora Lynne and Aric Huter of Milan, and Charley Grace and Hank Huter of Austin; three siblings, LaVern Ross of Cape Girardeau, Robert Mirly of Collinsville, Illinois, and Betty (Roland) Jagels of St. Louis, Missouri; and a very special friend, Erica Camp of Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, Magalee Mirly, a brother, Jack Mirly, and honorary father, Charlie Ross.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2016 at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the funeral home with the Rev. Ted Torreson officiating.

Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church, St. Paul Lutheran Church Henrichs Library, or to Missouri Department of Conservation Nature Center in Cape Girardeau.
