Catherine Chambers, age 94, and a resident of St. Louis for 64 years, completed her life's journey on June 9, 2015. She was the wife of the late Rev. Stanley W. Chambers who served many years in various official capacities of the United Pentecostal Church International, headquartered in St. Louis.
During their 63 years of marriage, Catherine traveled and ministered in 55 different nations. She was a gifted speaker and authored three books. She will long be remembered for her elegance, hospitality, and love of people.
She is survived by three daughters, Jean (Paul) Cowell of Kingston, Tennessee, Judith (Robert) Bentley of Jackson, Missouri; Jerolyn (Robert) Kelley of Glasgow, Scotland; a brother, David (Dorothy) Strepka of Kingston; nine grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and their spouses; a brother-in-law, Edward Yarbrough of Florissant, Missouri; and daughter-in-law, Gloria Chambers-Fleming.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence Stanley Chambers; a grandson, Brian Cowell; a sister, Marie Yarbrough; her parents, Peter and Pazia Strepka.
Arrangements are as follows at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church, 901 Barracksview Road, St. Louis, Missouri, on Monday, June 15, 2015:
Visitation from 3 to 6:30 PM, and homegoing service at 7 PM.
Graveside ceremony will be Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at 10 AM, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 1215 Lemay Ferry Road, St. Louis, Missouri.
In Catherine's memory, a scholarship fund has been established. Proceeds will go toward assisting students attending a United Pentecostal Church Bible College in North America or Glasgow, Scotland. All funds will be directed through Apostolic Pentecostal Church in St. Louis. Please make checks payable to Apostolic Pentecostal Church/Scholarship Fund.
