Cathey Lynn (Leadbetter) Buchheit

Cathey Lynn Buchheit, 66, of Oak Ridge, passed away Saturday, Dec. 19, 2020 at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Dec. 5, 1954, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Ervin and Leta Vasterling Leadbetter.  She and Brad Buchheit were married June 8, 1974 at St. Maurus Catholic Church in Biehle, Missouri.

Cathey was a 1973 graduate of Oak Ridge High School, where she was a cheerleader, a majorette, played the saxophone in the band, and was active in many other activities.  She was a hard worker and didn’t mind getting her hands dirty.  She would help with all of the routine duties of daily farm life. She also helped with the family companies, Elmer Buchheit Construction and Elmer Buchheit Logistics, where she managed the office, and often drove dump trucks and heavy equipment.

Cathey was strong in her Christian faith.  She was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson; after marriage, she joined the Catholic Church and was a member of St. Maurus in Biehle.

Loving survivors include her husband, Brad Buchheit, of Oak Ridge; three children, Amanda (Eric) Eftink of Chaffee, Missouri, Stefanie Buchheit of Oak Ridge and Zachary(Daniele) Buchheit of Friedheim; her mother, Leta Leadbetter of High Ridge, Missouri; three grandchildren, Beka Newell, Madelyn and Brayden Eftink; a brother, Russell (Donna) Leadbetter of Millersville; three sisters, Nancy (James) Kranawetter, of Jackson, Jean Leadbetter of High Ridge, and Beverly (Stephen) Schonhoff of Oak Ridge; her mother-in-law, Shirley Buchheit of Friedheim; and a sister-in-law, Karen Leadbetter, of St. Mary, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ervin Leadbetter, a sister, Letha Grace Leadbetter, a brother, Jerry Leadbetter and her father-in-law, Leo Elmer Buchheit.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2020 at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2020 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating.

Interment will follow in Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery, in Cape Girardeau.
