Charles A. Walton

Charles Walton, 78, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, May 8, 2021, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Charles was born Sept. 14, 1942, in Paragould, Arkansas, to the late Allen and Jewell Davis Walton. He and Carol Green were married in October 1961 in Clarkton, Missouri. Charles grew up on a farm near Gideon, Missouri. He graduated from Gideon High School and joined the U.S. Army. After his service, he worked at several jobs, such as farming and police officer, before driving a car hauler for General Motors. He retired in 1999. He greatly enjoyed woodworking, yard work and crossword puzzles. Loving survivors include his loving wife of almost 60 years, Carol Walton; two daughters, Sherry (Daniel) Sissom of Cape Girardeau and Tammy Groceman of St. Louis; a son, Jeff (Ann) Walton of Wentzville, Missouri; and five grandchildren, Josh Sissom, Austin and Paige Walton, Courtney and Caroline Groceman. Also surviving are a brother, David Mick; three sisters, Keli Brewer and Donna Wilkerson, both of Yuba City, California, and Reba Hughes of West Memphis Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Delmer "Josh," Gerald and Bill Walton; and a sister, Brenda Warren. There will be a memorial service at a later date. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Cremation was accorded by McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
