It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Claudia Maire Slayton, who departed this life on September 11, 2025, at the age of 76, at the Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau surrounded by her family and loved ones.
Born on January 6, 1949, in Fulton, Kentucky to Claude E. Slayton and Rebecca D. (Harp) Slayton. Claudia lived a life full of grace, kindness, and quiet strength. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend whose warmth and wisdom touched everyone she met. Her home was a place of comfort, her table always open, and her heart always giving.
Claudia was known for her faith, gentle spirit, quick wit, and the love for her children and grandchildren. She retired as a Purchasing Planner for TG USA, in Perryville, Missouri. Claudia found joy in the simple things like visiting with family and friends, spending time with her great grandchildren, playing cards, reading, sitting and talking with her neighbors, or listening to music.
Loving survivors include her children, Kevin (Tara) Rhodes of Jackson, Missouri and Donna (Darren) Bullard of Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Grandchildren, Alex Rhodes of Jackson, Colton (Jazmin) Rhodes of Jackson, LJ Taylor of Jackson, of St. Charles, Brooke Taylor of Jackson, Jessica Kuntze of Jackson, Blake (Haley) Bullard of Jackson, Jordan Hadler of Jackson, Shane Bullard of Cape Girardeau; great grandchildren; Cali Rhodes, Kynlee and Korbyn Kuntze, Casen Hadler, Landyn and Bella Bullard; and sisters Peggy Copeland of Fulton, Kentucky and Judy Knox of Festus, Missouri who will carry her memory forward with love and gratitude. She was preceded in death by her parents and 9 siblings: Joe Bagwell; John Bagwell; Dorthea Mautone; Edwin Bagwell; Virginia Osborne; William Bagwell; Patsy Ussery; Carolyn Graffius; Mary Foulk.
To celebrate Claudia’s life, a memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. At 7 p.m., the family will share brief memories of Claudia. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend and share in remembering a life so beautifully lived. Although our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing her love will remain with us always.
The family will honor Claudia with private inurnment.
