Clyde Bridges

James Clyde Bridges, 90, of Jackson, passed away Monday, September 28, 2015 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, where he had been a resident since June of 2014.

He was born August 29, 1925, in Scopus, Missouri, son of Columbus Palmer and Lillie Mae Drum Bridges. He and Maxine Welker were married April 12, 1946 in Patton, Missouri. She passed away December 27, 2009.

Clyde was a 1943 graduate of Woodland High School in Marble Hill, Missouri, and then served during World War II in the United States Navy from November 30 1943 until January 15, 1946. After his honorable discharge, he worked for the Missouri State Highway Department, retiring as a district supervisor after 42 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson where he was a deacon, and active in staging the Easter Cantata. He was a member of the Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post #158 in Jackson. Clyde enjoyed furniture repair, and woodworking; such as building a replica of Old Bethel Baptist Church.

Loving survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Joyce Bridges of Jackson; a granddaughter, Patti Lynn Bridges of Maplewood, Missouri; two sisters, Mildred Hopkins of Ferguson, Missouri; and Imogene (Paul) Craig of Tipton, Indiana.

In addition to his loving wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Glenda Stevens and Wilma Ferrel.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2015, at the funeral home with the Rev. Lucas Clabaugh officiating.

Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson with graveside military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
