Clyde L. Tatum, 82, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Jackson Manor Nursing Home.
He was born February 21, 1935, in Banner, Arkansas, to Herschel D. and Opie Harriet Arnold Tatum. He and Susan V. Johnson were married December 8, 1956, in New Madrid, Missouri. Three children were born to their union.
At the age of 13, Clyde started farming with his father, grandfather, and uncles, in Arkansas and later in Southeast Missouri. In the early 1960's, he worked for Kay Gas and Empire Gas in Lilbourn, Missouri. He moved to Jackson in December 1968. He was the bulk plant manager for MFA Oil Co, and was often seen driving around town. Many people will remember seeing his MFA truck parked at his home on Cecile Drive. He retired from MFA in 2000 and briefly worked for Campbell Mattress Company in Cape Girardeau.
Clyde was a longtime member of Cape Community Church, formerly Westside Church of God, in Cape Girardeau. He was previously active on the Pastor's Council and served as a church trustee. He was a 50-year mason with Excelsior Masonic Lodge 441 in Jackson.
Clyde was a devoted husband and father. He enjoyed restoring old gas pumps with his sons and spending time with his family. His grandchildren were the light of his life.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Sue Tatum of Jackson; two sons: Alan (Tina) Tatum of Hernando, Mississippi and children Kyle of New York, and Faith of Hernando; David (Cindy) Tatum and children Dustin and Macy of Jackson; six siblings: Ramona (the late Wayne) McGinnis of Jonesboro, Arkansas; Annetta Prince of Batesville, Arkansas; Brenda (Paul Ralph) Atwill of Olive Branch, Mississippi; Dean (Janice) Tatum of Marion, Arkansas; Stephen (Pam) Tatum of Batesville; Ronnie Tatum of Batesville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter and his parents.
Visitation is Tuesday, February 13, 2018, from 10 a.m. to service time, at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
The funeral is Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jimmy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Mounds Park Cemetery in Lilbourn, Missouri.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Jackson Senior Center or Saint Francis Hospice.
