Dale Lee Smith, 67, of Jackson was received into heaven on Friday, August 7, 2015. He passed away at his home after valiantly fighting lung cancer for over two years.

He was born July 26, 1948 at the family home in Jackson, the sixth of nine children of George and Nellie Schreiner Smith. He and Linda Puls were married October 31, 1970. He married Mariesa Crader February 28, 1982.

Dale honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post #158 in Jackson, and was a lifelong member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson. He was a quiet, giving man, who never knew a stranger. He was a great brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, and will be sorely missed.

Loving survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Casey and David Collier of Jackson; two grandchildren, Kyle and Katie Collier; three brothers, Dean Smith of Chaffee, George Smith of Jackson, and Mark Smith of St. Louis; three sisters, Jean Shepherd of Cape Girardeau, Laura Jo Smith and Kim Martin of Jackson; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dale was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Charles Smith.

Friends may visit with the family from 5:00 p.m. until service time on Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Gerald Collier officiating.

Inurnment will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at the Missouri State Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri.
