David Goodson

August 29, 1934 — March 6, 2016

Willard "David" Goodson, 81, of Jackson passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016 as a result of a tragic automobile accident.

He was born August 29, 1934 in Jackson, son of Willard and Margaret Friedrich Goodson. He and Jean Nenninger were married January 12, 1957 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau.

David was a graduate of Oak Ridge High School and then worked for Lenco in Jackson as a foreman, retiring in 2000 after 48 years. He also repaired televisions and radios out of his home for more than 20 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson. David loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and would attend any event they were involved in. He enjoyed family gatherings at the farm, and attending auctions. He never met a stranger and always had a positive outlook on life.

Loving survivors include his wife, Jean, of 59 years; five children, Mark (Karen) Goodson, Mike Goodson, Scott (Donna) Goodson, Craig (Jill) Goodson of Jackson; and Stephanie (Curtis) Weidenbenner of Cape Girardeau; nine grandchildren, Rachael (Jonathan) Bremer, David (Jackie) Weidenbenner, Claire Goodson, Trevor Goodson, Lydia Goodson, Aaron Goodson, Landon (Aubri) Goodson, Annaka Goodson, and Kinsey Goodson; two step-grandchildren, Ryan Bollinger and Amy Kesterson; a great-grandchild, Isaac Bremer (and a second great-grandchild due any day); a step-great-grandchild, Liam Kesterson; a sister-in-law, Linda (the late Dean) Goodson of Jackson; two nephews Jeff (Lorie) Goodson of Maryville, Illinois and Todd (Kimberly) Goodson of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call Tuesday, March 8, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, with Parish Prayers at 7 p.m., followed by a Rosary led by the Knights of Columbus Bishop Timon Council #6504 in Jackson. The funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Revs. Joe Weidenbenner and John Harth concelebrating.

Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
