Delores Riney

Helen Delores Riney, 91, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016, at her home in Jackson.

She was born June 19, 1925, in St. Louis County, daughter of Roy and Elizabeth Upshaw Ritchey. She and Melvin J. Riney Sr. were married July 22, 1944, in St. Louis, Missouri. They had been married over 56 years when he passed away October 14, 2000.

Delores was a graduate of Ritenour High School in St. Louis. After she and Melvin married, they resided in Perryville, Missouri. In 1966, they moved their family to Jackson, and Delores became a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She enjoyed doing volunteer work in the local nursing homes and was a member of the Breakfast Exchange Club in Cape Girardeau.

Loving survivors include four children, Melvin J. (Olga) Riney Jr. of Cape Girardeau, Linda (Gene) Penzel, David (Becky) Riney, and Darrell Riney all of Jackson; one brother, Martin Ritchey of Henley, Missouri; a sister, Marion McClure of Perryville; two sisters-in-law, Verna Renicke and Fayetta Riney; eight grandchildren, Jim (Lisa) Schamburg, John (Cathy) Riney, Kimberly Wilson, Sherry Bailey, Michael Riney, and Lauren Riney, Philip (Sandy) Penzel, and Christopher Penzel;

nine great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Schamburg, Racheal Riney, Sterling McCarroll, Hyland McCarroll, and Chelsea Schamburg, Andrea (Justin) Gorman, Allison (Adam) Grant, Conner Penzel, and Courtney Penzel.

Also surviving are four step-great-grandchildren, Jennifer Thurmond, Clarissa Kimbel, Katie Mayberry, and Alevtina Soloveva; six step-great-great-grandchildren, Alyssa Ferguson, Duncan Ferguson, Anna Niswonger, Austin Kimbel, Tyler Kimbel, and Nikolai Solovev.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Jeffrey Lynn Riney in 1988; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Riney; three brothers, Earl, Roy, and Tommy Ritchey; and three sisters, Ruth Long, Dorothy Fitzgerald, and Mary Alice Parres.

The visitation will be from 4-8 pm, Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. Deacon Walter Biri will lead Parish Prayers at 7:30 pm.

A funeral mass will be at 10 am, Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson.

Burial will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, MO.

The family suggests memorials take the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association, ICC Tree of Life, or to the American Cancer Society.
