Donald E. Borgfield, 79, of Jackson, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Nov. 3, 1936, in Jackson, to Edwin and Esther Kasten Borgfield. He and June E. Schneider were married July 13, 1958, at Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville.
Don was a lifetime member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson, where he was baptized December 20, 1936, and confirmed April 2, 1950. He later served on the Financial, Budget, and Nominating Committees, and as Sunday School President.
He was 1955 graduate of Jackson High School and was active in FFA. He was a sergeant in the Missouri National Guard, serving from December 13, 1954 to January 2, 1963.
Don was a lifelong farmer and was active in local agricultural affairs. Some of his affiliations include the MFA Oil Board; MFA Feed Store Board; the Livestock Shipping Association; and the Brookside 4-H Club as a leader in farming and livestock.
Don received many awards for his agricultural endeavors. For several years, he was one of many farmers honored by the Livestock Shipping Association as a top shipper; and in the 1970s, he was recognized as one of Cape Girardeau County's top Specific Pathagen Free Hog Breeders.
Loving survivors include his wife of 58 years, June of Jackson; two daughters, Kim (Robert) Hodo and Penny (Greg) King of Jackson; four granddaughters: Brandee (Chris) Reagan and children Braysen, Michaela, and Autumn of Federicktown, Missouri; Drs. Larissa (Nick) Barber and son Brendan of Sycamore, Illinois; Danielle (Brad) Gross and children Brayden and Brynlee of Farmington, Missouri; and Rachel (Todd) Heuring of Jackson; two step-grandchildren, William Hodo of Cape Girardeau and Michelle (Joe) Hobbs and children Allison and Austin of Jackson; a brother, Larry (Audrey) Borgfield of Jackson; a niece, Sandy (John) Schnicker and daughter Samantha of Jackson; and a nephew, Brad (Tosha) Borgfield and children Ava, Grant, and Grady of Jackson.
Also surviving are two brothers-in-law, Ebert "Butch" Schneider of Jackson and Jack (Carolyn) Schneider of Wylie, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Edna Lee (the late John) Slinkard of Cape Girardeau, Rose Marie (Howard) Meadows of Manchester, Missouri, Sharon Schneider of Gordonville, Missouri; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Esther Borgfield; a great-grandson, Rylan Christian Reagan; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ebert and Claris Schneider.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 22, 2016, from 4 to 8 p.m., at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be Friday, September 23, 2016, at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home, with pastors Joe Rowley, Sam Roethemeyer, and Greg King officiating.
Entombment will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau. Serving as pallbearers are nephews, Brad Borgfield, John Schnicker, John David Slinkard II, Scott Meadows, Brett, Kevin, and Todd Schneider, and special friend, Jeff Craft.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to the Memorial Fund or Margaret Puchbauer Scholarship Fund of Emanuel United Church of Christ, 303 E. Adams, Jackson, Missouri 63755.
