Donald J. Garland, 91, of of Jackson, formerly of Sedgewickvlle, passed away December 1, 2016, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, due to congestive heart failure.

He was born December 27, 1924. He and Coletta Seabaugh were married July 5, 1946, in Sedgewickville.

Don was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving from May 14, 1943 to December 25, 1945.

He worked many years at Superior Electric and Proctor and Gamble. He was a longtime member of the Methodist Church in Sedgewickville, Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158, and VFW Post 10495, both in Jackson.

Don and Coletta celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary July 5, 2016, at a party at the Lutheran Home, attended by over a 100 friends and family members.

Loving survivors include his wife, Coletta Garland of Cape Girardeau; a son Ron (Judy) Garland, and granddaughter, Rosa Dale Garland, all of Las Vegas, Nevada; five nieces and nephews: Pam (Mike) Pinkerton of Grandview, Missouri; Craig Grantham of Palm Springs, California; Rick (Dixie) Grantham of Jackson; Gary (Debbie) Downing of Plainfield, Illinois; Terry Downing of Raymore, Missouri; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by Coletta's sisters, Geneva (Roy) Downing and Virginia (Kelly) Grantham.

All arrangements are Monday, December 5, 2016, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson as follows:

Visitation begins at 11 a.m. with the observance of an American Legion Honor Guard Service.

The funeral will be a 1 p.m., with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, with full military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Sedgewickville United Methodist Church.
