Doris Elda (Koenig) Gihring

Doris Elda Gihring, 82, of New Wells, passed away January 26, 2021 at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

She was born February 25, 1938 in Farrar, Missouri, daughter of Reinhold and Marie Luehrs Koenig.  She and Norman Petzoldt were married April 18, 1959.  He preceded her in death on August 18, 1972.  She and James Gihring were married July 12, 1975.  He preceded her in death on January 3, 2007.

Doris loved gardening, bird watching, and taking care of and raising many breeds of chickens.  She was a hard worker, helping in the milk barn and taking care of her family.  She was a 4-H project leader and also worked with the LWML at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells.

Loving survivors include five sons:  Larry (LaDonna) Petzoldt of Altenburg, Missouri; Gary (Christine) Petzoldt of Jackson; Terry (Debbie) Petzoldt of Kansas City, Kansas; Duane (Wendy) Petzoldt of Jackson; and Mark (Christal) Gihring of Altenburg; a daughter, Sherry (Robert) Piazza of Old Monroe, Missouri; a brother, Elmer (Donna) Koenig of Jackson; a sister-in-law, Verna Koenig of Farrar, Missouri; 18 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first and second husbands; two siblings, Armin Koenig and Irma Recker; and a granddaughter, Brandy Jacobs.

The visitation is from 9 a.m. to service time, Saturday, January 30, 2021, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells.

The funeral service is at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 30, 2021, at the church, with the Rev. Roger Steinbrueck officiating.  Interment will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in New Wells.

The family suggests that contributions be made to LWML - Mites at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Wells.
