"Well done, good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:23a. Doris Louise Hecht Sullivan went to greet her Lord and Savior on March 27, 2025, having led a life of love, service and devotion to Jesus and all who knew her. Doris learned a life of service from her parents, Louise and William Hecht, on the family farm in Altenburg, Missouri. She became an accomplished organist while a preteen and served God and others with her talent for decades. After high school, Doris moved to St. Louis where she met the love of her life, Billy Sullivan. After a whirlwind romance, they married on August 17, 1957, and enjoyed 67 years together filled with love and adventures. They were blessed with four children and Doris was like a second mom to many of her children's friends. Doris instilled in her children a love of Jesus, music and service through her words and example. Doris filled her time raising her children and volunteering in their schools, community groups and her church, where she taught Sunday school, conducted evangelism visits, and ministered to the sick and homebound. Doris was an excellent cook and used her skills to cater school lunches and fundraisers and provide funeral meals. When Doris and Bill retired to Jackson, Missouri, their fun and blessings increased. They traveled often to enjoy their grandchildren, showering them with love and affection. If possible, they enjoyed their great-grandchildren even more. They were active in square dancing and traveled throughout the state. Even in retirement Doris stayed active serving, volunteering with Stephen's Ministry, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Orphan Grain Train, Seeds of Hope and the local food pantry. Whoever knew Doris knew her as a woman of God who loved her family and others. She will be missed daily by her loving family, who strive to follow her example of love and service. As she joins her husband Bill, her grandsons, parents, siblings and many friends in the arms of Jesus, she can face her Savior knowing she has fought the good fight, finished the race and kept her faith in Jesus until the end. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Paul Lutherans LWML or St. Paul Lutheran Church. Services are today March 27, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, Mo with visitation starting at 3 p.m. The Rev. Joshua Schmidt will conduct the funeral service at 4 p.m. Interment is private at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield. Arrangements by McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
