Doris Ann Thurman, 85, of Jackson, passed away Friday, May 1, 2026, at Mercy South Hospital in St. Louis.
Doris was born April 25, 1941, in Charleston, West Virginia to Henry and Delphia Kyle Graham. On July 3rd, 1960, Doris married Charles L. Thurman in Summersville, West Virginia. Three children were born to their union: Belinda, Charles Jr. “Chuck”, and Melissa. Doris and Charles had been married nearly 55 years when Charles passed away on May 2, 2015.
The couple first resided in California, where Charles worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone. In the early 1960s, they relocated to Missouri. They were members of Connection Point Church and the Roll Away Square Dance Club. As a family, they especially enjoyed camping.
Doris was a former Brownie Troop leader, operated an in-home daycare, and worked in the cafeterias for Jackson R2 Schools.
To cherish her memory, Doris leaves three children, Belinda (Rex) Jones of Jackson, Charles Jr. (Debbie) Thurman, and Melissa (David) Bierer, both of Marble Hill; seven grandchildren: Kasie (Eric) Holder; Brendan Jones; Heather (Jason) Schenimann; Samantha (Lance) Trankler; Corey (Kalyn) Thurman; Elizabeth (Austin) Hahs; Ryan (Courtney) Bierer; 14 great-grandchildren: Brianna (Ryan) Upchurch; Kaitlynn (Samuel) Shoemaker; Logan Fouts; Brody Gast; Jovie and Tylee Schenimann; Delaynie and Landon Trankler; Jaxon and Wyatt Thurman; Layla and Brock Hahs; Gauge and Lakyn Bierer; two great-great-grandchildren, Walter and Matthew Shoemaker; and a sister-in-law, Janet (late John) Graham of Summersville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Dora Bond and Eva Woods, and a brother, John Graham.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, May 7, 2026, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. The Rev. Chris Vaught will conduct a memorial service at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Connection Point Church Building Fund.
