Dorothy Imogene Hale

Dorothy Imogene Hale, 88, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017, at the Monticello House in Jackson.

She was born February 26, 1928, in Madison County, Missouri, to Bro. Coda Raymond and Elizabeth Lily June Lane Brown. She and Samuel P. Hale were married March 28, 1948, in Advance, Missouri. Three children were born to their union.

Dorothy's parents had 10 children. Her father farmed and was a minister of the Primitive Baptist faith. The family resided in the Missouri communities of Hartle's Ford, Roselle, Fredericktown, and Brownwood. Dorothy graduated from Advance High School.

Dorothy worked at the former International Shoe Company in Jackson. When it closed, she worked at Florsheim Shoe Company in Cape Girardeau, retiring in 1993. She was a member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in Roselle, Missouri. She loved spending time with her family. She especially liked crocheting and sewing for her family and for craft fairs, and walking at West Park Mall until her health rendered her unable to do so.

Loving survivors include her husband of nearly 69 years, Sam of Jackson; two children, Douglas (Carolyn) Hale and Diana (Joe) Culver both of Jackson; five siblings: Coda "Bobby" (Geneva) Brown and Michael "Mickey" (Kathryn) Brown, both of Marble Hill, Missouri; Darrell "Butchie" Brown of Sikeston, Missouri; Shirley Dunivan of Puxico, Missouri, and Peggy Arnett of Sparta, Illinois; six grandchildren: Darren (Stephanie) Hale of Ballwin, Missouri; Leah (Chuck) Farris of Columbia, Illinois; Angela Clayton of Paragould, Arkansas; Rebecca (Aaron) Whitmer of Patterson, Missouri; Crystal Weaver (Christian) Voight and Joey Culver, both of Jackson; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Ann Caviness; four siblings, Russell Dean Brown, Jerry Lane Brown, Mary Louise Marlow, and Patricia Lane Harris; and her parents.

Arrangements are as follows at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Public visitation is Tuesday, February 7, 2017, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The family will adjourn for lunch at noon and return to the chapel at 1 p.m.

The funeral is Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at 1:30 p.m., with Bro. Don Barnett officiating.

Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Lone Pilgrim Primitive Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Missouri.
