Dorothy Ann (Petersen) Shiery

Dorothy Ann Shiery, age 99, of Jackson, Missouri and formerly of Bethany, Oklahoma passed away August 12, 2021 at her home.

She was born April 9, 1922 in Manilla, Iowa the daughter of John and Lulu Smith Petersen. Dorothy married Rev. Melvin Shiery March 10, 1946. He died June 28, 1986.

Mostly known as “Mammaw” by family and friends she was the glue that held our family together, the prayer warrior who prayed for us every single day, the person we could always count on… the list is endless. She was an unselfish person who never wanted to be a bother and didn’t complain about anything. Mammaw’s greatest joy in life was her grandkids, great- grand kids, and great- great grandkids. She lived for their visits and FaceTime calls (She made it very clear that she preferred FaceTime over phone calls). Many times the picture of her would be upside down because she couldn’t figure out how to turn the camera, but we laughed and carried on an upside down conversation. So many special memories; her candy jar, Tupperware cups, Snickerdoodles, reading books, rocking and singing “By oh Baby”. Most of all Mammaw loved God with everything in her and lived her life in a way that proved it. This week as we stood around her bed praying God would give her a good night’s rest, we heard her  praying for all of us and asking God to bless us. That’s the special lady she was. She fought a good fight, and finished her course! We believe she is going to need a cart to carry the crown God has prepared for her. Mammaw will be greatly missed by her family, neighbors, and a host of friends. She has left a huge hole that can never be filled. We love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck!

Loving survivors include three children, Debby (the late Eldon) Mahan of Jackson; Charles (the late Debra) Shiery of Greenwood, Deleware ; James (Linda) Shiery of Yukon, Oklahoma ; nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; and a daughter in law, Karen (the late Mike) Shiery of Adrian, Michigan. Also surviving are a host of nieces, nephews, and close friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Melvin of 40 years; two children Mike Shiery and Kathy Shiery; several great grandbabies and seven siblings.

Local arrangements were by McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

A private family Memorial will be held in Jackson, Missouri.

A graveside service will be held at Bethany Cemetery in Bethany, Oklahoma.
