Dorothy M. (Sperling) Hinkebein

Jackson, Missouri

Dorothy M. Hinkebein, 91, of Jackson, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born February 25, 1929, in Tilsit, to William A. and Lydia Maevers Sperling.  She and Ennis W. Hinkebein were married February 23, 1949 at Immaculate Conception in Jackson.  They had been married 36 years when he passed away ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­July 9, 1985.

Dorothy was a member of St. James United Church of Christ in Tilsit.  She was a long-time employee and retiree of Lee Rowan in Jackson.  One of her favorite past times was going to yard sales with her granddaughter, Christy.

Loving survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ennis Wm., II and Janell Hinkebein of Jackson; grandchildren, Shawn (Chrissie Roché) Hinkebein, Casey Hinkebein, Karly Hinkebein, Eric (Renee) Hinkebein, Christy (Troy) Littlepage, Lyndsey (Landon) Weber, and Landon Hinkebein; great-grandchildren, Claire & Jude Hinkebein, Taven Roché, Takoda Shay, Alexys & Dalyn Littlepage, Cameron, Preston & Christian Hinkebein and Allisyn Weber.  She is also survived by her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Willard & Vivian Hinkebein and Joann Hinkebein; special friends, Jo Ann Knoll, Helen Seabaugh and Hester Turner; several loving cousins; her St. James’ parish family; and Dorothy’s “baby,” her dog, Phoebe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, and a son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Diane Hinkebein.

Words are not enough to thank the excellent nurses and staff at Ratliff Care Center for their special loving care of Dorothy.  We would like to give many thanks to the staff and all the people of Fresenius Kidney Care.  In addition, we are thankful to Southeast Health Hospice for helping Dorothy these past few days.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Wed., June 17, 2020 at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.  Funeral will be 10:30 a.m., Thurs., June 18, 2020 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Schultz officiating.

Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. James UCC or St. James UCC Cemetery Fund.
