Edna Mae “Babe” Grant, 84 of Jackson, passed away Saturday, September 7, 2019, at The Villas of Jackson.
She was born March 5, 1935, in Jackson, to Alvin and Altha I. Drum Schlegel. It was an uncle that gave her the nickname of “Babe”.
Babe was a 1954 graduate of Jackson High School. She and Joe Don Grant were married June 25, 1954, in Jackson. In 1968, they moved from Jackson to Chaffee, where they owned and operated the former Grant's Florist and then co-owned the former Hearts and Flowers Bridal Shop. Babe later worked in the floral department at Hobby Lobby in Cape Girardeau.
The Grants avidly supported the Booster Club and Band Booster Club at Chaffee High School. Upon moving back to Jackson in 1983, they enjoyed attending Jackson girls and boys basketball games. Babe enjoyed gardening and crafts. She and Joe had been married 56 years when he passed away July 28, 2010.
Loving survivors include a daughter, Susan (Dan) Daugherty of Gordonville; three grandsons, Grant (Erika) Biler of St. Louis, Kyle Daugherty of Kelso, Adam Daugherty of Millersville; two great-granddaughters, Lillian and Kendal Jo Daugherty; a half-sister, Stephanie (Barry) Pender of Millersville; a brother-in-law, Harold G. (the late Mary Lou) Grant of Columbia, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Aletha L. (Don) Brown of Jackson; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Nikki Jo Biler; her parents; and her maternal grandmother who raised her, Nellie Drum.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. to service time, Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jason Shaw officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson or LaCroix Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.
